24 Trail Rider Ride Report Red Bull Sea to Sky By Rich Mumford So there I was, winding my way up what could best be described as a 12-inch wide, rocky goat trail in 90-degree weather, watching a rider ahead of me a empt a failed wheelie switchback to the le . The problem with this one par cular switch- back was that you had to gas it just prior to the turn because the trail was off camber, angling off the side of the mountain. The turn was followed by an immediate climb up some ledge. Without enough momentum, you slide off the trail. Com- pletely rested, focused and closer to sea level, it's definitely doable. A few hours into an event and out of water, it's mes like this you wonder, how did I get here? Rewind two months to late July, 2018. I received word from my boss that we would be a ending a business trip to our company office in Cairo. The trip was scheduled for the first week of October. Being a NETRA Enduro fan, I knew that the "Sea to Sky" Enduro was taking place the last week of September in Kemer, Turkey. I men oned to my boss that flight-wise, it might be more cost effec- ve if I connected through Istanbul on the way to Egypt. With travel details sorted, I registered online and that gave me about two months to get into some type of riding shape. For 2018, my performance in the Clarkie's and KPTR Enduro was marginal at best. When in shape, I'm an OK B Senior rider with small handful of A points. My go-forward strategy was to try and hit a different NETRA event each weekend and get some mountain biking in to work on my fitness. A er hi ng a handful of NETRA Hare Scrambles, Turkey Runs and Enduros, and with the clock run out on my training schedule, I departed the weekend of September 21 for Sea to Sky in Ke- mer, Turkey. There is a seven and a half hour me difference, so I spent Sunday trying to acclimate to the me change and avoid free beer at the all-in- clusive rider's hotel.
