16th Annual leroy Winters ISDt Reunion Ride Story by Jeff DeBell Photos by John Zink Ranch, Sand Springs, OK The 16th running of the Leroy Winters Memorial ISDT Reunion Ride was hosted by the Tulsa Trail Riders at the John Zink Ranch near Sand Springs, OK. This was the third time that the Reunion Ride had been held at the Zink Ranch, site of the 1994 International Six Days Enduro, or ISDE. Trail Boss Paul Rodden knows the ranch like the back of his hand and laid out a lot of the 1994 Six Days route. This year's Reunion Ride used some of the same trails ridden in 1994, and anyone who worked the '94 event easily recognized trail sections leading to and departing from checkpoints and service areas. As is the custom, a number of former (and some current) Six Days veterans made it to the Reunion Ride. Dwight Rudder and Greg Holder were seen sporting vintage riding gear….Belstaff jackets, leathers, open face skunk helmets and bandannas… aboard their matched pair of Pentons, Dwight on a Jackpiner and Greg on a Berkshire. Don Cutler rode his 1975 Isle of Man Desert Phantom and brought former ISDT team manager Marcia MacDonald with him. Marcia was on an old XR200 and took home a bronze medal for the weekend. Long distance award goes to Jerry Harris who drove down from Alaska and rode the same 1975 Can Am that he rode at the 1975 ISDT on the Isle of Man. Close behind was Harold Perepalkin from British Columbia. "Turk" rode the 1973 Dalton ISDT on a Bultaco, but for the Reunion he breaks down his IT175 and hauls it cross country in the back of a Honda Element! Gary Richards also came down from Canada to ride a beautiful green Hercules 350/7. Chris Graber and Kelvin Thomas, both from Indiana, caught the Reunion Ride bug a couple of years back and are now regulars at the ISDTRR and other vintage events throughout the year. 3-time ISDE vet Bob Bean came and was riding like the wind until a special test get-off at speed sidelined him, but he'll be back next year no doubt. The Penton team was well represented by John and Jack Penton, Carl Cranke, and Fred Cameron. America's first ISDT gold medalist (1949), Tommy McDermott, made the trip from New York State to be at the Reunion. The state of Oklahoma was January 2013 47
