A Bonneville Shoreline Trail Evening It's mid September and the colors of autumn have just started to turn on the west facing slopes of the Wasatch Range, the western most part of the Rocky Mountains. It's 6 PM and the sun has started its race to the horizon towards another glorious sunset. I roll my 1984 Honda, XR 500 out of our garage and dress for the ride. I have know this motorcycle for about 25 years and purchased it from my long time friend, Charlie Judd, about 2 years ago. It has been fully restored down to the last nut and it is in better than show room form, as it was fitted with several high performance items as well as a street legal kit with headlight, turn signals, horn, break light and mirrors. With the usual two kicks, it fires right up and makes the familiar bark of a Honda single through the Super Trap exhaust. I Live in Layton Utah, which is about centered, north and south, in Davis County, just north of Salt Lake City. I head towards Kaysville, the next town south and turn due west on 200 North, towards The Great Salt Lake. When the road ends, I turn south on and wind my way through the many new subdivisions. 8 Years ago, these neighborhoods didn't exist but now there are thousands of new homes built on the floor of old Lake Bonneville. I often wonder that if there is a once in a hundred year storm, will these homes stay above the water level of the lake. I work my way down to The Farmington Bay Bird Refuge, a wetlands bird area set aside for birds of the area. I take a break there and watch the wild life make ready for night time. After 20 minutes, the Cranes and Sea Gulls have settled down so I mount up again and continue south. I turn south on Davis County Road, an old historic mostly dirt and gravel road that runs along the eastern edge of January 2013 59
