1997.5 KTM 200LE Jackpiner
Hard to imagine a late nine es bike being considered vintage, isn't it? The reality really hit when I was
recently given a copy of the September 1997 issue of Trail Rider that featured the KTM 200 LE (Limited
Edi on) Jackpiner. Tommy Norton was on the cover and our old "Bossman" Paul Clipper had taken the photo.
The 200 Jackpiner was big news at the me and I remember it well. Having just ordered a new '98 300EXC
with an out-the-door price tag of $5600, the 200LE at $6797 (1967 being the first year of the Penton, 1997
being the current year) was over a grand more than a 250 or 300. Price aside, they were nearly impossible to
obtain as only 133 200 Jackpiners were built. Hard to believe it's been over 20 years…
