38 Trail Rider www.TrailRider.com There seems to be a bit of a misconcep on con- cerning pipe op ons for the KTM TPI models. Yes, we've all heard that the power valve se ngs are not to be messed with. From what we understand, some have done so against factory recommenda- ons and have seen decent results. As for ours, it runs fine and we've yet to touch it. Another remark we've heard over the last year is that TPIs must run the factory pipe or it will adversely affect perfor- mance. Thoughts behind this statement typically refer to the ECU mapping and how the tune is set for the stock pipe. Well, we all know how long a stock pipe lasts on a two-stroke… Hanging low and wide, they can be crushed instantly by lurking logs hidden in the lush green forest. Since we're two- stroke junkies, we're no strangers to the situa on. We'd been lucky but we finally whacked the pipe on our 300TPI. With the OEM pipe priced at over 550 bucks retail, the hunt was on for a suitable op on that wouldn't hinder performance. What I wasn't looking for is more bo om end. The power delivery of the TPI appeals to my style of riding. In reality, I was looking for a replace- ment for the stock pipe that wouldn't break the bank. Since we like different here at Trail Rider, we decided to give the folks at DEP Pipes a call to see what they had to offer. Made in the UK, DEP is quite popular in Europe, but few off-road riders are aware of the company here in the states. Yes, adver sing can be expensive! The pipe we chose was their Armored Nickel Enduro Pipe. Claimed thickness is approximately 1mm, while not feeling any heavier than the stock pipe. Priced at $252.95 retail, it's close to half the price of OEM. Installa on, like any pipe, was a breeze, and we hit the woods for a quick rip. Upon ini al fire up, we felt no difference. What was really apparent was a sweet increase in mid-range hit, while pull- ing harder on top. Fit and finish is pre y sweet, and it does tuck up a li le ghter than stock. All in all, we're quite pleased with this purchase! Check 'em out at deppipes.com. Product Feature DEP Armored Nickel KTM 300 TPI Pipe
