September 2019 13 We then headed south and ended up in a ny town called Timberon. The previous year, the en re town was almost completely destroyed when a forest fire swept through. They lost more than buildings, along with many cars and trucks in the fire. There was also a golf course, and at the 19th hole was a small tavern called High Country Lounge and Grille. It was about mida er- noon so a cold beer really sounded great. So here come four dirty dirt bike riders in an open but completely empty pub in the middle of nowhere! The girls were very accommoda ng and brought out some serious nachos. While we were si ng there, a huge storm cloud came over us, the tem- perature dropped at least 25 degrees, and the bo om dropped out of the cloud. It was literally a frog-strangler. It poured for about 30 minutes, but who cared; we had beer, nachos and played a dart game or two. The rain soon subsided, but the high mountain air was chilly so it was me to slip my soaking wet jacket back on. Timberon is about 30 miles south of Cloudcro so it was a fairly long and extra cool ride back to the cabin. It's funny what beer does to my system. I only had two, but when you're officially an "old fart" it took about three pit stops to make it back to the cabin. Of course those 45- and 55-year- old youngsters I was with didn't let me forget it. Cloudcro , New Mexico is a "MUST RETURN" on our bucket lists. It's a very motorcycle-friendly place. We barely scratched the surface on finding trails and probably passed only three or four oth- er riders on trails the whole me we were there. Prepare yourselves, Big Daddy's Diner; we will be coming your way again soon! -Jon Pomeroy Dallas, Texas
