Dane Schoeneberg. After this section, we headed to the first gas and then went out for two more sections. The trail was awesome and flowed well in the first piece. Unfortunately these classic NJ trails are becoming rare gems as the New Jersey clubs are battling to keep control. Luckily, most of the race avoided fire cuts (the leftover pieces most clubs are resorting to). In the second section, the fastest riders were Ben Smith (2-146), Rich Lafferty (2-146), and Wally Palmer (2-149). After a small break, riders got back at it for another section. This section was very similar to everything else in the day but allowed riders to get a rhythm. Up to this point, we still hadn't seen much open terrain. Again, Rich Lafferty led the group through the section but was closely trailed by Wally Palmer who was one second behind him. Again, we headed back to the gas stop for another break. With the cold weather, it was an agonizing break as we waited for 40 minutes to head back out. During that time off the bike, it can be hard to stay warm unless you can get treated to someone's warm van (Thanks Melik family!). We headed into the last 3 sections where speeds increased and the berms were perfect. Nothing is better than railing berms in 5th gear and just being able to get the bike to plant in sandy corners. As we headed out for the last three sections of the day, the temperature seemed to drop further. The section we headed to was a back-to-back check with an endurocross test in it. There were a lot of downed logs in this section and a cork screw grass track at one point. Rich Laffery once again led the test with the fastest time of a 4-253 and a 4. He was followed by Pasqua, Palmer, Wally Palmer finished second overall aboard the AWD Christini. April 2013 15
