2013 Caprock Canyon Enduro, RMEC Round 3 In my opinion, the Caprock Canyon Enduro, hosted by the Post Enduro Association, is the crown jewel of the TSCEC/RMEC co-sanctioned events. A cool town, great terrain and the whole community getting involved really make this race a must do. With that being said, the night after the Lonestar Enduro, two weeks earlier, a blizzard came thru the area that dropped 12" of heavy wet snow to the area. Despite the last Blizzard, everyone was unusually excited to make the same 10 hour drive south for another co-sanctioned event between the TSCEC and the RMEC. Out of fear of being stranded in another blizzard I had been watching the ten day forecast like a hawk. To my liking, northern Texas had been receiving a fare amount of rain. When the ground here has moisture in it, expect one of two things: hero dirt or something analgous to riding on chicken turd. For those of you that haven't fondled chicken turd, it slicker than grease! Personally, I like the slick conditions, so I was disappointed to find that the region had dried out due to high winds prior to race day. Bummer. This year's event featured 6 special tests and about 80 ground miles, with about 60 of those miles being the super sweet, twisty/turning/rolling Texas single track that is so much fun. Tests 1 and 6 used the identical 3 mile course that was used for Saturdays Grand Prix. If you were brave enough to contest Saturdays race then you were rewarded by having the upper hand on 33% of the Enduros special test. I love it when blind luck works in my favor!! Clint Chew cuts through the parched Texas Lanscape. Above: Ian Blythe took the overall at the Lonestar Enduro, winning both days. April 2013 19
