ti Jus 50 A2 l ko So n NUTMEG & CATRA Paul White B Veteran NETRA HARE SCRAMBLE SERIES B en Kelley earned his first overall win at the Nutmeg State Hare Scramble, round 4 of the NETRA Hare Scamble Series. The day looked to be a repeat of the previous round, with Jason Klammer jumping out to a quick lead. Klammer would put 25 seconds between himself and a second place Ben Kelley after the first lap and then tack on another 15 seconds after lap 2. On lap 3, Kelley would take back 10 seconds and then recoup the difference on the next lap. By lap 5, Kelley and Klammer were riding wheel to wheel and the battle was on. With Kelley running him down, Klammer was now battling the young upstart along with a residual illness that kept him sidelined throughout the week. By the beginning of the final lap, Klammer was completely spent, giving up almost 2 minutes to Kelley. Watching all this unfold was Husaberg-mounted Jim Senecal. In typical "Silent Assassin" fashion, Senecal crept up on Klammer during the last lap, overtaking him when Klammer fell on a rocky uphill. Despite feeling sick, Klammer still shored up the final podium spot. John Kelley and Brenda Riordan would go on to finish 4th and 5th respectively, while young Nick Kordana raised a few eye brows by riding to a 6th overall. In the A class, Josh Toth finally put together a solid ride, best- 24 Trail Rider Ken Sch e rer Mas ters Photos by Art Pepin ing the A class and finishing 8th overall. Michael Wolf would put in another impressive ride from the A250 class and finish second behind Toth and 9th overall. Similar to previous years' layouts, the course wound through the rocky hills of central Connecticut, which offered a mix of challenging single track broken up by grass tracks and cornfields. Rain leading up to the event made an already technical track even more difficult, the highlight of which was a notoriously rocky uphill that caused bottlenecks throughout the day. In the B Class, Zach Zinns would take the overall from the B250 line. A look at Zach's lap times reveal that most of his 5 minute lead over second place came later in the race; impressive considering that most are slowing down then. With that kind of speed & consistency, Zinns will soon find himself in the A class. Earlier in the day, Anthony Federico took the win in the novice class from the C250 line. When it was all over, Federico was more that 7 minutes in front of the second place finisher, Jacob Mayer. Mayer, starting from the C200 line, had to battle his way through the large C250 line en route to second overall. Greg Peterson put in an impressive ride from the C Senior class en route to the class win and 10th overall. www.TrailRider.com
