32 Trail Rider www.TrailRider.com It was well a er dark when I finally rolled into Rock Springs and found a parking spot amongst the trucks in the quite full Rene- gade Travel Plaza parking lot alongside I80. In short order I had crammed a surpris- ingly good truck stop burrito into my yap, reclined the driver's seat, and nodded off. There were trucks moving around all night and REM sleep may have been reached but not for long. Shortly before dawn I hit the road with a mega mug of truck stop coffee and headed east toward Loveland. The landscape was now stark rolling dirt hills with li le evidence of life un l turn- ing south off I80 and driving through the foothills of the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. By early a ernoon I had arrived at the OX venue, The Ranch Events Com- plex. Finally at OX I arrived mida ernoon as much of the OX was s ll being setup. Nevertheless, the admins got me checked in, badged, got the OX app loaded on my phone, and even found a place for me to park inside the compound. My rig was bigger than any of the official parking spots that had been laid out, but the parking crew and I were working a solu on when a stern looking guy with a radio showed up in a golf cart. There always seems to be a guy in a golf cart. I'm be ng his name was Sarge. He made a call and then said, "follow me". So, I did. Sarge found a big, wide open, spot about fi y feet behind the Triumph Motorcycle semi-trailer and about 2 feet from the stock corral. This was to be my home for the next few nights. It was comfortable and pri- vate, although it had a powerful and musty equine fragrance. A rake would have really helped me spruce the place up since the grounds were covered in that which typically covers the ground adjacent to a stock corral.
