Rick split the cases and replaced all the bearings
including mains and rebuilt the cranksha with a new
connec ng rod. Rick also has been re-machining old
Sachs gears to improve shi ing. With a fresh bore
and piston, the li le 100cc Sachs was crated up and
sent back to Maine.
The rolling stock received new wheel bearings and
brake shoes from Al Buehner at Penton Parts USA
and the hoarder that I am, happened to have a pair
of NOS Metzeler knobbies lurking on the stack just
wai ng for a project such as this. Al also hooked me
up with new sprockets and we had a new 420 chain
in stock.
Other than a few minor details, we're pre y much
done with this project. At this point, it's a nice
well-sorted original example of the brand. I'm glad
the seller didn't sandblast the original paint off the
frame and ns as it cleaned up so well. Plans for this
ride will be some pit bike duty at upcoming events.
Possibly down the road, if I can find all the compo-
nents for the "Enduro Kit" such as a small diameter
headlight, taillight, speedo, and tank bag, we'll up-
date the igni on system and plate it for a li le back
road ac on. One thing's for sure, it will be enjoyed
as intended!
