July 2024 13 The Moranz name may be familiar to Supercross fans, as Ryan's brother Kevin is a regular on the pro circuit and has raced in Europe. Fred Hoess topped the 50+ class, finishing 11th overall, having started six minutes down on the sixth row. That means he had to pass a ton of riders along with only a handful of Pro, A or Team riders finishing ahead of him. Countershox Nate Looney was hot on Fred's tail, finishing 2nd in the 50+, only three spots back in 14th overall. The top B rider was Andrew Burns who finished 19th overall on a Yamaha and the top 40+ rider was Beta-mounted Nick Sanford, 20th overall. Jerry Cur s on a TM was top 60+ rider at 27th overall, and the top C rider was Joseph Gosch who brought his KTM in at 38th. Harlie Hickey was top Women's rider on a Gas Gas, with Lexie Vaught (KTM) and Kirby Bailey (GG) rounding out the Women's podium. Nearly 370 riders started the 100-miler with about 280 going the distance. The Florence Grand Prix has returned to its glory days a er a five-decade nap, and is a unique opportunity to get in three hours of non-stop WFO racing. The li le town totally accommodates the race with a Saturday night street dance, food trucks, camping and parking at the city's ball- fields, and townspeople who are happy to have you unloading your bike in front of their house. It is a des na on ride and spectator event for road and adventure bike clubs, and you'll see kids taking advantage of some of the shutdown city streets, wheelying their mini bikes down the middle of the road. The county sheriff doesn't mind. He pre y much authorized it, and as long as you're not doing anything excessively drunk or stupid, it's all cool. Put it on your calendar for next year and come join in on the fun. -Jeff DeBell
