July 2024 19 of the past were somewhat disappointed with the somewhat weak low-end of the TPI model. In searching for a motor boost, Alec Morefield at Slavens recommended their S3 head with a low-eleva on dome insert. This simple bolt-on modifica on delivered in every sense of the word. It provided a no ceable increase in low-end grunt, without the trade-offs of messing with the power valve adjustment. Interes ngly enough, although compression was increased from 190 psi to 215 psi, the bike s ll behaves well on premium pump fuel. This increase in compression also cleaned up a slightly rich condi on with the stock ECU down low. $179.95 Slavens Mule GET ECU Full Race Kit. Now some of you might say we should have le well enough alone as the vast majority of KTM TPI models run just fine. We get that and having owned 11 KTM TPIs since 2018, we've found them to run pre y damn well out of the crate. The problem is some of us are never sa sfied. Those who've been in the game for a length of me typically have a drawer full of carburetor jets, needles, and slides. As one who prides himself on his je ng prowess, I felt s fled with the KTM TPI. Whereas in the past, we could pop in a richer pilot jet or raise the clip to make changes in power delivery, my hands were ed when it came to tuning the fuel-injected KTM 2 stroke. Enter the Slavens Mule GET Full Race Kit. This comprehensive package includes a new ECU unit, Wi-Fi module, mapping switch for mild to wild, and a billet aluminum injector block. The Full Race kit relocates the two fuel injectors from the transfer ports to the reed block, just ahead of the thro le body. Tes ng has proven moving the injectors from the transfer ports to in between the cylinder and throt- tle body delivers a substan al power increase when compared to Transfer Port Injec on, especially at low/medium RPM, along with a more linear feel in delivery. The ECU included in the Full Race Kit in- cludes two different maps created by Slavens. Each map is custom-designed for your eleva on and to match your engine mods. As above, we had in- stalled the S3 high compression head earlier in the season The tune provided by Slavens complements the S3 head wonderfully. Although the Slavens Mule GET Full Race Kit does have Wi-Fi tuning capability, I enjoyed learning the process, but truth be told, the maps delivered were spot-on and I've never felt the need to change the tune but appreciate the fact that I could if desired. With the kit installed, the exhaust tone was no ce- ably deeper. It sounds stronger. The difference in power is an instantaneous sensa on. And the bike feels so much like the much-loved pre-2019 carbu- reted 300s we all liked so well. The end result was a nice strong pull right off idle that's perfect for those gnarly second or third gear climbs where you're searching for trac on. Mid-range is also stronger building to a wail up top. To sum it up, the bike has more power everywhere, and with the higher com- pression head might possibly make more power than my '24 300 TBI.
