September 2024 17 Honda demo rides were expertly staffed Honda demo rides were expertly staffed Honda Africa Twin: Please take my opinion as just that. I am a woods rider, not an ADV rider, and I have li le experience with ADV bikes. The Africa Twin is a large, heavy, tall motorcycle. Our demo was a guided tour of approximately 20 miles consis ng of flowing paved back roads and a fair amount of dirt roads. The bike is powerful and fast. I feel it lends itself well to two-up riding. The ergonomics were comfortable, although my size 13 feet seemed too big for the shi lever length. I'm sure there's a ermarket op ons. To be honest, the bike was nice and typical Honda with all controls within a finger's reach, but a er 20 miles, I was happy to get off it as it was just too big for my liking. Again, huge respect for those who ride an Africa Twin off-road, as it felt like I was riding a locomo ve. Triumph 900 Tiger: Fresh off the Africa Twin, I hopped aboard the 900 Tiger, and what an inter- es ng machine it is. The Tiger could be best de- scribed as a cross between a sport bike and a big giant dirt bike. Seated, the feel is somewhat of a café racer with a hunched rider posi on although quite comfortable. Surprisingly, given the sport bike seated stance, standing on the pegs of the 900 Tiger feels natural and familiar with great ergos. What was really interes ng is the 900 Tiger has an automa c clutch. Now, you must use the clutch to put it in gear and take off, but once roll- ing, you don't need to use the clutch at all upshi - ing and downshi ing. Also, you don't need to roll back on the thro le while shi ing. All that is done for you. Just twist it and bang the gear shi up and down. The thro le is automa cally chopped for a split second, and gear changes are smooth as a hot knife through bu er. It took some ge ng used to, but I liked it a lot. The 900 Tiger works excep onal- ly well and exudes quality. The Triumph 900 Tiger is something that I felt I could easily spend a full day on, given the chance.
