With the basic bones in decent shape, all efforts surrounded the engine, and it was pulled from the frame. Once disassembled, it received a complete rebuild with a fresh bore and piston kit along with a new connec ng rod and all new bearings along with fresh clutch plates. Having been through too many woes of failed Motoplat igni ons on my European bikes, I ordered a new Vape 12-volt DC complete igni on system. We've enjoyed fantas c results with the Vape systems as they provide a big fat spark for easy star ng and power bright 12 volt ligh ng even at idle. We like to rip our vintage bikes around town here at Trail Rider headquarters, and powerful lights make good sense. The original well-worn Bing carb was put aside for a new Lectron H-Series flat slide carb. Speaking from experience, swapping out an old Bing for a Lectron is one of the best upgrades you can do to an old bike. They start easily, idle well, and run crisp and clean all through the RPM range. Yes, they are somewhat pricey, but it's good money spent in our book. Alan Buhner of Penton Parts USA provided the new airbox boot, a few cables and a set of new brake shoes too. The pipe, although original, like most old Penton's, was badly bent at the tail sec on. With the back sec on hanging out in the breeze, the tail of the pipe took the majority of the hit in a crash. Penton expert extraordinaire Kevin Donovan did a fantas c job fab- rica ng a sec on and reworking the tail of the pipe to the point that it looks factory-fresh. Huge thanks, Kevin; your work is second to none. Cosme cs were freshened with a set of NOS Penton fenders that I've been hoarding for years, along with an OEM CEV headlight and taillight. The seat was also rebuilt by Kevin Donovan with a new reproduc- on seat cover, and not only does it look great, but it's also comfortable to spend me on.
