November 2024 31 As my roll chart wound down to the last 10 miles of the day, I was a bit saddened when I recognized my loca on at a road crossing less than a mile from the start. Well, that sadness soon disap- peared when I spo ed an orange arrow leading back into the woods. This arrow led us into a recently mowed grass track course that has to be one of the longest and most fun grass tracks I've ridden. Situated in a huge rolling field, we poured it on, dicing back and forth like it was our last day on the planet. Just when you'd think the sec on was done, we'd wind into another field with even more to rip. Not paying any a en on to mileage or the roll chart, I thought the day was done, but no, the Wayne County crew had even more in store for us with another sweet 5 miles of single track that gave us a glimpse of the field where we started then dived back down into a steep off-camber groove that was the icing on the cake for Day One of the Monkey Bu . In total, your editor Kurt, spent eight full hours in the saddle to cover 92 miles of this fun event. I'm happy to re- port all went well, and my setup worked flawless- ly, allowing me to totally tune out all that's wrong with the world and celebrate what's great. A nice reboot so to speak! Again, huge thanks to Wayne County Motorcycle Club, Charlie Hill of Arbor Hill Farms for opening his gates for all of us bike freaks to camp and enjoy his amazing property, and all the generous landowners who so graciously offer their prop- er es for this one day of the year. Although me constraints did not allow us to par cipate in the 60-mile day two event, we'll be back next year for sure!
