In 1994, Tulsa Trail Riders hosted the second and last ISDE/ISDT to be held on US soil. The loca on was in the middle of the USA, at the Zink Ranch in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Thirty years later, riders again descended on the iconic Zink property, this me to compete in a two-day, Vintage/Modern bike ISDE-style event. The reunion event would take place on Friday and Saturday, with the NEPG Na onal taking place on Sunday. To top it all off, we also enjoyed a standing-room-only banquet Friday night hosted by the Tulsa Trail Riders and MC'd by President Steve Travis and Gary Hazel, with Sherco, Jeff DeBell, and Jack Penton working the crowd. As I walked around the staging area, I saw bikes ranging from a beau ful Blue Tanked 1974 Penton 175 Jackpiner, ridden by Shawn Mayo, to the latest model Husqvarna 150, ridden by none other than 4- me Na onal Enduro Champion and ISDE vet Terry Cunningham. There was also a beau fully restored 1992 Suzuki 250 RMX by Clint Hawk and an array of 1994 bikes brought to the event for posterity's sake. One bike in par cular, brought by Alex Bogert, had a truly inspiring story. In short, growing up in Michigan, Alex fell in love with a 1994 KTM his friend had and was determined to own one himself one day. That day came in July 2012. While viewing ads, he came across an ad for a 1994 KTM 250 EXC, which he bought for $700. A er bringing it home, upon inspec on, he no ced the paint on the cases, a big FIM s cker on the steering neck, and the #145 painted on the wheels and hubs. It was then he knew he had a special piece of ISDE history. Turns out, a er much inves ga on, the bike was rented and ridden by Team Brazil rider Franco Fraccaroli. A er the event, the bike was returned as a rental and lost in the netherworld of used bikes, only to be found by Alex and, with the help of Jeff DeBell, lov- ingly restored and presented at this event. Thank you, Alex, for sharing that story with us, truly inspiring. I had never been to the Zink Ranch but had heard horror stories of rocks, more rocks, slimy hills, and endless single track. I was going to be riding my 1984 Yamaha IT200 and was certainly curious about what the club had in store for our two-day Reunion ride. 2024 ISDE Reunion Ride 2024 ISDE Reunion Ride 30th Anniversary of the 1994 Zink Ranch ISDE 30th Anniversary of the 1994 Zink Ranch ISDE By Suzy Moody By Suzy Moody Photos By DirtBike Dream Photos Photos By DirtBike Dream Photos November 2024 37 Allan Swartz Allan Swartz
