36 Trail Rider www.TrailRider.com Once I laid eyes on it, I was taken aback. The bike was as close to showroom-new condi on as any dirt freak could dream of. The original plas c, decals, res, bars, grips, and seat, along with the matching tool bag, were all in perfect condi on. Although a trip meter only, the odometer read 47 miles, and the tell-tale signs of low use make me believe the mileage displayed was accurate. It was clear that this XR was an impulse purchase that had been parked inside someone's house and never enjoyed. As for the wake-up process, the seller had handled it well, and the bike was ready to ride and fired immediately when I arrived. As for price, the seller was righ ully proud of his Honda, and the asking price was steep. Not having all the cash he was looking for in pocket, I apolo- gized for a low-ball offer, and he politely declined. Several weeks had passed, and the seller called, dropping his price. Although I really liked it, adding yet another bike to the fleet doesn't make much sense. We're running out of room here. A few more weeks had passed before we came to a mutual agreement, and this Honda is now part of our collec on. My ini al plans were to just park it in the lineup with the other bikes. As the seller said, "This bike is too nice to ride". Well folks, that lasted for about an hour and 50 minutes of that were spent taking these pics before your eyes. A er ripping it around the property for a day, I decided to plate it and enjoy the bike with some light dual sport ac on. Over the course of the last month, I've flipped over that two-digit trip meter about four mes, and man alive, is this bike a hoot to ride. With its six-speed transmission, the li le XR has just enough legs for around town usage, cruising comfortably at 50 mph. Off road, the bike is plush as a couch, although I've been careful of not bea ng it up in the rocks.
