November 2025 29 Speaking of pavement, it seems in recent years, we've been seeing more and more long stretch- es of pavement in between trail sec ons. Hats off to Wayne County for minimizing the tarmac, u lizing access roads between farmers' fields and wooded abu ng proper es. Regarding the property on which the Monkey Bu Dual Sport event is held, much of the land and many of the trails used are deeply rooted in WCMC's history. From the first WCMC event in 1935 through 2007, the club hosted the second-longest, con nuously scheduled AMA enduro (tradi onal mekeeping), second only to the Jack Pine Enduro. For 1970 & 74, the AMA elevated the Newark Enduro to a Na onal Enduro. WCMC Pres Jerry Bulman remembers the '74 Na onal well as it ran right through his backyard. Mee ng all the greats was a treat to be remembered as a 9-year-old kid! For various reasons, the Newark Enduro came to an end a er 2007, although the wheels of the Club's leadership con nued to turn. The regional demand for a long, challenging off-road event persisted, so with a few new ideas and a li le crea vity, within a few short years, the Monkey Bu was created. Day two also started out with a bang, with a large percentage of Saturday's entrants also signing up for Sunday's ride. What started out similar to Saturday, with a fast and flowy sin- gle-track sec on of about three miles, fed into a freshly mowed grass track sec on that wound up, over, and around some of the most spec- tacular property Upstate NY has to offer. With a quick lunch break (thanks all), I kept my KTM twisted and got into the groove for the remain- der of the ride. Huge thanks to Wayne County Motorcycle Club for pulling out all the stops and for their gen- erous dona on of $3000 to the Wayne County Humane Society. And again, thanks to Charlie Hill, owner of Arbor Hill Farms, for opening his gates for all of us bike freaks to camp and enjoy his amazing property. Charlie, a veteran himself, makes sure all veterans in a endance are ap- preciated and thanked for their service. to the generous landowners (over 40) who graciously offer their proper es for this one day of the year.
