February 2026 29 school and spoke with the principal to ensure both boys could stay in school while flying all over the country, leaving on Fridays and returning on Mon- days, racing for Honda. The high school years were magical for Marty and Tommy, with both driving 911 Porsches to school in their senior year! During his years with Honda, Tommy soon moved up from the 125 class to the 250s, then to the ultra-trick RC500. Long travel suspension was in its infancy at the me, and the factory bikes were all handcra ed, incredibly expensive machines. Cro enjoyed a nice stretch at Honda, but it was Kawasaki that lured him to ride green with the then- new Uni Trak rear suspension. He said he enjoyed a lot of success on the Uni Trak, but unfortunately, a few injuries ended his motocross career. What most don't know about Tommy Cro is that his racing career did not end with motorcycles. An avid dune buggy enthusiast, Cro focused on four- wheel racing, first with his own team and later with Chrysler and Jeep, winning five championships and se ng records in the Mickey Thompson Series. Cro even spent some me behind the wheel in NASCAR. Racing cars extended Cro 's race career another 10 years. Tommy Cro looks back on his days of racing with fond memories and said he was well into his 40s before he had to get a real job, that of a truck driver, a profession he enjoys greatly. Another highlight of the PVR banquet involved a friend and compe tor of many in the sport and mo- torcycle industry. This par cular gentleman's list of accomplishments is immense. With championships spanning 45 years, along with compe ng in 28 Inter- na onal Six Day Enduros, resul ng in 19 Gold Medals. Now re red from ISDE compe on, our friend has tackled the Enduro Vintage Trophy (vintage Six Days) with a vengeance, earning 4 gold medals during the last 5 years. At the 2025 EVT event in Poland, al- though our friend dominated in fine style, due to scor- ing inaccuracies, his gold would be handed to another rider at the awards ceremony. This puzzled many, as the numbers don't lie. Well, thanks to our friend and EVT Team Manager, Suzy Moody, for relessly protest- ing the FIM while working with the AMA, Fred Hoess was presented with his well-deserved EVT Gold Medal for his efforts at the 2025 EVT in Poland! Yes, friends, that's 5 for 5 in the Enduro Vintage Trophy compe - on. This was a real treat for your editor, Kurt, as Suzy Moody gave Kevin Lavoie, another ISDT gold medalist, and me the honor of presen ng Fred with the Poland Gold. The look of surprise on Fred's face was priceless as it was so unexpected. Way to go, Suzy! Tommy Cro Tommy Cro Kurt Flash, Kevin Lavoie, Fred Hoess Kurt Flash, Kevin Lavoie, Fred Hoess
