March 2026 31 Spiller Farm Winter Scramble By Keith Taylor I've heard about this race for the last couple of years and haven't been able to commit to it 'cause I plow snow for my town in Rhode Island, and it's tough to commit to the race fully. This year, I lucked out as the weather was finally on my side. I woke up at 4 am, loaded up the bike, and my li le race partner, aka my daughter Charlo e. She loves going to all the races with me. We got on the road at 5 am for our 3-hour journey from Rhode Island to Maine. We pulled into Spiller Farm at about 7:45, and not many people were there yet, but it didn't take long for the diehard rid- ers and spectators to show up and brave the cold temps. I got signed up and ready for the day's fun of racing dirt bikes on snow and ice. To my surprise, we had a few of New England's best riders show up, the J-Day champion, Jus n Cokinos, Cody Williams, and NE MX legend, Keith Johnson. Now it's race me, and I'm on the line, and I see Jus n and Cody on my line, and not gonna lie, it made me nervous 'cause these guys are fast, so I just reminded myself we are just here to have fun. Once the green flag dropped and we all spun our way to the first turn, the nerves went away and I soon se led into a good, comfortable pace. To my surprise, we wrapped up a 5th in the first moto. The second moto, I felt a li le be er knowing that I knew what the course was, which was a sweet mix of woods and a moto track. Surprisingly, the woods held up well for the en re day, with just a couple of so spots, but nothing crazy, and the moto track was icy and a total blast to ride. When the flag dropped on the second moto, it was another spinfest to the first turn, and I made it through the start in a good posi on, ahead of the chaos lol. The course was definitely be er in the second moto, and speeds picked up. I felt like I was flying and ended the moto in 4th, which gave me a 4th-place finish for the day, which I was totally happy with, given the caliber of riders in my class and not being on the bike for 2 months. With all that said, I want to thank Andy Mathieu and all the staff at Spiller Farm for hos ng such a fantas c event. New Englanders, this is definitely an event you want to try out. And thank you to Kurt and Trail Rider Magazine for all the support, and to all my other sponsors who help me do these races. TBT Racing Northeast, ZRT, Scars and Stripes, Northeast Pruning and Tree, and the good team with a bad name.
