18 Trail Rider www.TrailRider.com The course would be fairly dry and appear firm right up un l my mud boots sank over the ankle in what appeared to be terra firma. "Start It Up" by the Rolling Stones was cranked on the loudspeakers as the minis lined up at their choice of water-filled star ng line ruts. Once on the course, the junior racers kept the thro le pinned and put in some impressive laps. I found a good spot to spectate, a straightaway dumping into a 90-degree right turn and followed by a right- le -right chicane that exited into another straight- away. Some of these kids never let off the thro le and were fanning the clutch and banging gears the whole me. The future looks good, and it looks fast! The adult riders would do four laps each of the cross and enduro tests to make up for the abbre- viated Saturday schedule of only three tests total. Johnny Girroir posted the best me through the first cross test with Pro 2 rider Cooper Jones just a second behind. Jones was a second ahead of Girroir in the second cross test, with Cody Barnes, Grant Davis, and Jason Tino close behind. Girroir faltered in the third cross test, dropping 21 sec- onds to Cody Barnes on the big Beta, and came up short in the final cross test, too, se ling for the third podium spot in the Pro 1 class. Grant Davis went 1-1-2-2 in the four enduro tests to secure a P1 finish in Pro 1, with Cody Barnes staying just ahead of JG Rippah to secure the P2 spot. In the Pro 2 class, it was Cooper Jones either winning or tying each of the 8 tests to firmly cement the top step podium. Gavin Simon and Jason Tino traded 2nd and 3rd place mes through the tests, with Simon squeaking out the second podium step and Tino a comfortable P3 for the weekend. Thorn Devlin and Triumph's James Jenkins handily topped the ProAm class on Saturday, but Cole and Lane Whitmer made Sunday their's along with Kawasaki's Will Sievenpip- er, pos ng mes that were right up there with the Pro1s and 2s. At the end of the day, it was Cole, Will, and Lane, 1, 2, 3 for the weekend. Over in the Women's Pro class, the injured Brandy Richards went 2-1-1-1 in the fast and open cross test, but came up short in the ghter and sloppier enduro tests. Danielle McDonald was untouchable through the woods, and although Brandy lost only 14 seconds to McDonald through the four enduro tests, it was enough to give the Aussie the podium for the week- end, with Brandy P2 and Rachel P3.
