36 www.TrailRider.com Now, some might ask why do we like our Lectrons so much? First of all, I've personally been a Lectron fan for well over 40 years, with my ini al experience with the product being on a Penton. With no ny jets to clog or clean, I like the simplicity of the de- sign. Once tuned, and that process is greatly simpli- fied, as above, there are no replaceable brass jets, just a metering rod to fine-tune; they run crisp and clean from idle all the way to full scream. The latest genera on and top-of-the-line Lectron, the Billetron series, has an adjustable power jet feature to fine- tune top-end performance. The big bonus is the team at Lectron Fuel Systems is easy to deal with, and they've never been stumped a er well over a dozen rather odd applica ons that we've thrown at them. Last but certainly not least, Lectron Fuel Systems is located right here in the good ol' USA in the great state of Texas! The final and most important part of making an engine run is the spark needed to light the fire. The original Motoplat igni on wasn't known for its reliability, even when new, and although I'm aware of a few who can rebuild them, I'd much rather replace the en re system with all new components. Fortunately, there are great op ons available to us vintage enthusiasts when it comes to a ermarket igni on systems. The issue at hand was that the KTM 495 uses a twin spark plug igni on system, and we wanted to keep it that way. A er doing some research, I reached out to Dan Gray at Re-MX Inc, also located in the US, Mary- land, to be exact, to discuss our op ons for replace- ment igni on systems. What I learned was if we wanted to retain the twin spark configura on, PVL Igni ons was our only choice for a KTM 495. With the 495 being such a limited produc on bike and PVL being located in Germany, I thought I'd be in the same situa on as with my piston hunt. Incred- ibly, Dan at Re-MX had everything on the shelf to assemble a twin-coil/twin-plug igni on system and shipped the kit to our door less than a week later.
