It's even more difficult when you are in a foreign country and do not speak a word of the na ve language. To give the readers of Trail Rider the full experience of what it was like to race a Portuguese Na- onal Championship for the first me, I have prepared an exam. Best of luck! 1) Why on earth am I racing a Portuguese Na onal Championship race? a) It will be a good warm-up for the EnduroGP of Portugal the following weekend. b) It will be good prac ce for the upcoming ISDE in Portugal. c) My suspension guy/coach thought it would be fun. d) Why not? e) All of the above f) Choices (b), (c), and (d) 2) What me did I wake up on Raceday? a) Two hours beforehand, with plenty of me to prepare. b) Fi een minutes before my start me, by a panicked knock on the camper door because I misread my start me. 3) In what way did I confuse and entertain my compe tors before we entered impound the morning of the race? a) Pulling my breakfast (a sandwich) out of my helmet (which I had been using as a grocery sack to carry the sandwich, my gloves and my mecard) and ea ng it while we waited. b) Ge ng confused about where I was supposed to be and having to climb over a fence to get to the right spot in me. c) Tripping over an electrical cable and having my first crash of the race before the event even started. 4) What is this part of Portugal like in June? a) Dusty and sandy b) Hero dirt c) Muddy and loamy
