September 2026 13 I know a lot of us have helped clean up trails a er storms and before races, but these guys take it to the next level. Colby told me about a couple of his buddies going out and clearing 50 or 60 trees out in a day. That's trees, not the occasional limb across the trail, but big ass pines and always on a hillside. This is more like lumberjacking all day with a motorcycle to get you back to where you parked. Slackers need not apply. I saw Colby and a couple of his co-workers each day, and they were noth- ing but smiles all weekend. I asked him if they ever ran into any "jerks" on the trail, and he said 99% of the riders he meets are just great. There's the occasional one who skipped the "Get an OHV s cker" or spark arrestor class and needs to be reminded, but for the most part, he said it's really darned easy....Buy a s cker, run the s cker, don't drink and ride, pay a en on to which trails the signs say you can or cannot use, don't be a bu head, have fun. The Colorado trails weren't dreamed up by some poli - cian. Colorado has had a very ac ve off-road community for decades. There are groups like the Colorado Trails Preserva on Alliance and others that are very ac ve at the state and federal level in securing OHV rights and funding. Colorado state senator Sco Bright is an avid dirt biker and OHV advocate whose son Chase is one of a long list of Colorado's ISDE medalists. Point is, riders got involved and made things happen. Don't be invisible! I know I'm missing a ton of info here, but there's plenty available on the internet and social media about Colorado riding opportuni es, and hey, don't leave the road bike or dual sport at home. There are unlimited riding pos- sibili es of all types, and don't forget rentals and tours. The li le towns in the region appreciate your business, and the non-bike ac vity opportuni es are pre y much unlimited, too...hiking, kayaking, equestrian, E-bike and mountain biking, an quing, sightseeing, steam train ex- cursions, great dining. Come, ride, vaca on, repeat. Easy peasy! If you see the Forest Service guys out there, be sure to stop and visit. As I said, they're the "good guys"!
