October 2026 The Taco-Moto tent was staffed by Taco-Mike Spurgin himself, and I got a 20-minute Q&A ses- sion on the development of their KTM fuel pump system. They created a solu on that drains both lobes of the tank without any bike-leaning or seat-bouncing shenanigans. A whole lot of engi- neering over mul ple design itera ons took place to come up with such an elegant solu on. During the vendor tent tour, I had signed up for a KTM 1390 ADV test ride, and by mid-a ernoon it was my turn to take a spin on the beast. We rode some backroads through town, then hopped onto a loose, twisty forest road that climbed steeply into the hills over Kellogg. I hadn't paid a en on to all the 1390 se ngs, but I probably should've set trac on control higher. My thro le hand is quite used to the 890 but that kind of wrist twist- ing on the 1390 would have shot me off into the treetops, I fear. It didn't feel as heavy as an ci- pated, but it was pre y girth-some, which made it easy to grip with my knees. A er a few pictures and some chitchat, we headed back down the hill and hopped on I-90 long enough to go from East Kellogg to West Kellogg. This was the one brief chance to wick it up, and the 1390 did not disap- point. I doubt I used even half of the claimed 173 hp, but in the space of one exit, the 1390 made a good a empt at stretching my arms. No, I'm not going to say how fast I went. Mostly because I don't know, since I was too busy looking at the Exit 49 off- ramp approaching at warp speed. It was a short test ride, but the power and com- fort displayed put the 1390 on my op ons list for long-distance cross-country tours. Dinner/riders mee ng was 6-8 PM in Noah's Lo at the main lodge, and the food wasn't your standard rubber-chicken fare, which was a pleasant surprise. Between the KTM team and a endees, we were pushing the room's 300-person capacity! The rid- ers mee ng included all the usual and necessary admoni ons and warnings, plus last-minute route updates. By the me I realized the "Ride With the Pros" sign-up sheets were at the bar, they were all filled out. Oh well, I'll have a chance to sign up tomorrow night. Friday morning was bright, sunny, and a bit cool…. Perfect for a ride through the local forests.
