summer because Penton was the marque being honored that year. Teddy entered his 1971 steel tanker in the parade lap, watched the vintage racing and caught the fever again. At the POG meeting at Mid Ohio, Teddy learned of the ISDT Reunion Ride, held that fall in Cass, AR, and also learned that the Jack Pine Enduro was going to be run for the last time that year. Teddy entered his Six Day in the Jack Pine and made it 12 miles before the rear shocks locked up. He was the only vintage bike entered and was dismayed not to finish, but as it turns out the rumors of the demise of the Jack Pine were unfounded. Teddy had bought a Penton Jackpiner at Mid Ohio and took both his Six Day and the 'Piner to the Reunion Ride that fall. The transmission went out on the Six Day but Teddy rode the 'Piner for the final grass track and had a blast. Three years later, the Reunion Ride celebrated the 30th anniversary of the 1973 Dalton ISDT and was held at Jim Hoellerich's farm in Cheshire, MA. Teddy brought his 1971 Six Day, still with original Berkshire impound paint, for display, and rode his Jackpiner to a gold medal finish….and Teddy and Rosemary celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary that weekend as well! Rosemary had special "pit crew" sweatshirts made up featuring their pictures from 30 years ago! Teddy and Rosemary had become fixtures at most of the AHRMA events and it was about this time that Teddy became chairman of the Cross Country committee, a position he would hold for 8 years before passing the helm to Lynn Burton. It was during this time that Teddy's passion for ISDT reliability trials events led to the development of the Six Day series of qualifiers leading up to the annual Reunion Ride. Just as Al Eames had his wife, Marie, giving him 1000 percent support, Teddy had his loving wife Rosemary with him every step of the way. He sure made a good choice in selecting his pit crew for that 1971 Berkshire! This great couple also wanted to share their faith and began Sunday morning prayer meetings at the cross country events and Reunion Ride. These humble meetings have great meaning and memories for those who've shared them with John and Jack Penton, Al Born, Dane Leimbach, and many other great riders. As the 2013 Reunion Ride approached, Teddy decided he should finally finish the ride he didn't complete in 1971, so he parked his "modern" 1984 KTM and loaded his 1971 steel tanker for one final ride in the Berkshires. His goal was simply to finish the two days, which he did in grand style, bring home a silver medal for his efforts. Of course, Rosemary was there cheering him on the entire weekend and had brought several poster boards full of racing photos from their involvement with the Reunion Ride, AHRMA, Mid Ohio and the Berkshire Trial. So that's the story of how one guy and his Penton finally managed to finish the 1971 Berkshire Trial four decades later. Along the way he married the best "pit gal" in the world, celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary at the 2003 Reunion Ride, ramrodded the AHRMA Cross Country series, and celebrated 40 blessed years of marriage at this year's Reunion Ride in Massachusetts. He got the bike, got the medal and got the girl! Does it get much better than that? Congratulations Teddy on your Berkshire finish and congratulations Teddy and Rosemary on your incredible life together.
