used those to help get set up for this year. Who impresses you coming up through ranks? There a bunch of young guns that made big leaps this year. Steve Mason has really improved and probably made the biggest improvements. BobLapinski is also really improving and Brian SeFoss has made some improvement in the rocks. What do you struggle with? I struggle with everyone; I struggle to sleep, I struggle with cardio, I need to be more aggressive at times (laughs). When you're 19, there's not much to slow you down. I think twice now. I am more concerned about getting injured than winning a race. My body tells me I am getting older and with that I struggle with cramping, and things like carpel tunnel. Time is always a struggle, it seems like there's never enough to do the set up stuff I want to do. I struggle with a lot of things. What are you doing this off season? After the season ended I found out I had a partially torn rotator cuff that I think happened back in October. Since the season ended I have only ridden a couple of times. After doing this for 10 straight years, I took some time off and to heal up, it was needed, too. I am getting back in to it now as far as riding and training goes. Now I am going to start doing more riding and some suspension testing. Getting the new suspension dialed in on the XC is going to be a learning curve What's the plan for 2014? Goals? I plan to defend my number one plate in enduros. I may do some national enduros early in the year and go back to doing some more hare scrambles. What do you do for training? For cardio I run or do elliptical work outs. When I ride I grab the stop watch and pound out laps. I'll try different things too like carrying an extra gear to see if I'm faster or do figure drills and other stuff things but when I go out it's all business. I used to just trail ride but that takes time and I am always short on that. I probably ride alone at least 80 percent of the time. What are you riding for 2014? A 2014 KTM XC 250. Who do you want to thank? Brooks Hamilton of KTM North America, Steve Bromley, Silcolene, Sunstar, EBS, Factory Connection, Trapani's Bike Shop, Enduro Engineering, FMF, Evan Yarnell of Solid Performance, My family and 2 kids - they are always in the back of mind becaues they say something funny like: "now remember cut in front in of them if they get in your way", Dunlop tires, Twin Air, the ECEA - I don't have a pit crew so other pit crews were great about taking my gas and gear with them. I would also like to thank my competition for pushing me December 2013/January 2014 17
