DER Blue Diamond Hare Scramble ECEA Harescramble Series - Final round, Nov 17 & 18, 2013 by: Delaware Enduro Riders, at Blue Diamond MX Park, New Castle, DE photos and article by Paul J Freeman – www.PJFreemanPhotography.com The Delaware Enduro Riders hosted the final round of the 2013 ECEA Hare Scramble series, at the popular Blue Diamond MX Park facility. Sunny skies and spring like weather with temps in the 60's greeted the riders, as well as a perfectly prepped course by Alan DeCarlo and his BD staff. Not surprisingly, all this was a sure recipe for producing a huge turnout of racers, all wanting to get that last epic race in before winter. This event keeps getting bigger and bigger every year, and this one was no exception, as over 750 racers showed up to test their skill and endurance on this one of a kind race course. A total of 24 Pro class riders showed up on the front row, ready to throw down in the Main event. All of the top AA ECEA guys were on hand, as well as a number of equally talented racers from other series. Racers from NETRA, J-Day and WNYOA; GNCC and the NEOC series could be seen throughout the start rows; as well as an select group who contend the National Enduro series, one of them being Mike Laffert. And not to be outdone by the "off road aces", many local motocrossers showed up too. All were looking to take home the generous purse, and the bragging rights that comes with winning this race, which has become one of, if not the most popular race of its kind on the east coast. What makes it so unique? Well, the DER club lays out their 20 Trail Rider annual harescramble course by utilizing all o f the MX & ATV courses, as well as an Super Moto (pavement section) through the original amusement park areas which include flat track corners and long straight-aways around the sand plant located behind the MX track. The Ben Kelley, layout also included trails throughout the 11th overall woods and a grass track. Sunday's events included a new stone pile down-hill, as well as the popular section added last year, consisting of some gnarly Endurocross obstacles, such as huge tuck/tractor tires, and log pile, and whoops/jumps - can you get any more extreme?? With all of this diversity, it is no surprise why racers come from so many areas, and disciplines to race this event as it has something for everyone! This year, the DER guys arranged for a group of Hooters gals from the local New Castle, and Newark restaurants to come www.TrailRider.com
