to stop as I realized my day was over (the worst feeling for a racer), so I wobbled to the end of the section. Later, we found out a piece of metal the size of screwdriver put a hole in the tire and both sides of the tube (time for bibs). After changing out wheels, I arrived 15-20 minutes late into the fourth section. With a sand tire on the bike, I bounced off every tree in this section and crashed many times. About halfway through, the trail started to get gnarly with rocks and boulders. I took some creative lines to get by a couple tricky areas as riders were scattered. In every gnarly section, you always see that one rock that looks like somebody did a burnout on it. After getting back to the truck and losing so much time, I called it a day. With a sand tire, I didn't feel comfortable in the rocks and didn't want to risk hurting myself in the high speed terrain. Everyone else went out for the 2nd loop. I know the last section had to be unbelievably rough the second time around. The overall winner not only had to hang it out on the fast trail, but had to ride smooth and aggressive in the rockier sections. Jeff Pasqua was able to do both on his Bromley's KTM while winning every section of the day. He edged out Jeff Melik by one point who raced his Sherco 300i to second overall. Steve Masson took an impressive 3rd overall and has steadily built momentum in the rocks. Fourth and fifth overall went to Chase Compton and Kyle Bylsma, respectively. According to a few club members, next year's event will go back to two separate loops. Thanks to all of the SPER club members for an excellent event!
