Nutmeg State Vintage Scramble
May 7th 2016

The Nutmeg Vintage Scramble, season opener for NETRA's Vintage Series summed up in one
word, was a hoot!
Although the weather could have cooperated a bit better, at least the golf ball sized rain drops
had stopped about an hour before the 1:30PM start time. It was clear, the Winter months had
been kept busy by all the impeccably clean, well restored vintage mounts on the line. NETRA's
vintage competitors are a fun bunch, but really get competitive when the green flag drops!
Estimates of 70+ vintage bikes were entered that sloppy morning along with a large turnout for
the morning Pee Wee event. Rain aside, spirits were high, atmosphere light and everyone grin-
ning from ear to ear. So cool to see such huge interest in the NETRA vintage series.
Our choice for the Nutmeg, was the '79 IT175 that Trail Rider featured last month. Even though
the event was nothing short of a quagmire with all the rain dumped on the freshly tilled farm
fields, the little IT proved to be a pretty good tool for the job. No doubt, it got its neck wrung
pretty hard in the soupy fields but worked decent enough in the slick, grease covered rocks in the
woods sections to finish placing 5th in Evolution class. Certainly nothing to write home about but
given the conditions, we would have been glad to just finish the event under power. Huge fun, it
had been 37 years since I last raced an IT175 and what a blast it was. We're hooked!
