20th Leroy Winters Memorial ISDT Reunion Ride Razorback Riders, Combs, AR Oct 28-30, 2016 The 20th running of the Leroy Winters Memorial ISDT Reunion Ride was held on Hallow- een weekend at the Razorback Riders club grounds in Combs, Arkansas. The Razorback club hosted the fi rst four reunions just over the mountain in Cass, and the club has hosted the event several mes since. Combs is home to the Blackjack Enduro Circuit's annual White Rock Enduro and features plenty of great trails, eleva on changes, and the occasional rock or two. Skidplates not op onal. Weather was clear, dry and unseasonably warm, so there was no need to wipe morning frost off the bikes as has been the case in past years. Riders began rolling in on Thursday, and by Friday night the parc ferme was loaded with the old bikes we all grew up with and love. Although the early reunions drew respectable num- bers of classic vintage scoots with minimal suspension travel — BSAs, Triumphs, steel tank Pentons, etc. — as the ridership has gently aged, the preference for a plusher ride for our "vintage" bones and joints has made the bikes of the late 70s and early 80s the weapons of choice. The parc ferme boasted large numbers of Huskies, Hodakas, KTMs, blue ITs, yellow PEs and green KDXs. Some of the rarer breeds were Rob Phelan's Rokon GMR, Johnny Friedli's 175 SWM, and couple of later year Ossas, including a pre y Desert GP-3. Six Days vets Dwight Rudder and Greg Holder always show up with some nice riding irons. This year Dwight was aboard a gorgeous 73 Ossa SDR and Greg had built a 71 Honda SL-125 Leroy Winters Replica. When asked if he could handle the raging eight-horsepower SL engine, Greg just winked and said his bike had ALL the Winters modifi ca ons, meaning it was anything but a stock mill! Some great compe on was in store thanks to 80s ISDE vets Bob Bean, Chris Graber, Kelvin Thomas and Kevin Hutchinson who always come with their eyes set on the fastest test mes. They always fi ght for the podium spots, but it wouldn't be easy this year as 34- me Six Days vet Jeff Frede e showed up fresh from the 2016 ISDE. Freddie didn't ride this year; however, he played an integral part in the great success that the American Trophy, Junior Trophy, Wom- ens, Club and Senior teams had in Spain. Don't let the Internet photos fool you — Freddie did a lot more than prep air fi lters with the wives and girlfriends. Other vets riding were Turk Perepalkin from Canada, Billy Hoff man and Alan Drane from Tex- as, and Erik Nijkamp, who rode for the Dutch team and now resides in Colorado. Six Days vet and Mo on Pro boss Chris Carter was there to spectate, as was 75 Isle of Man ISDT vet Jerry Harris who made the trip down from Alaska but was sidelined with recent shoulder surgery. John and Jack Penton were there also, and it is always a great experience for the riders to see them out specta ng and cheering at the special tests. 12 Trail Rider www.TrailRider.com
