Wood Chopper Vintage Scramble

A er just six weeks prior to the event, e Rhody Rovers secured a 160-acre section of land to hold this
year's Pee Wee Vintage and modern Hare Scramble. Club members spent the greater part of the short
time basically chopping wood and clearing trails. e appropriately named scramble made up of primari-
ly pine groves and fl owy single track quickly turned from heavenly loam berms to slick roots and ruts.
A deluge of rain dumped just prior to fl ag drop but the skies dried up and le the course a little damp but
rideable.
e landowner dropped the fl ag as the fi rst row hit the single track. Second and third rows followed
about 30 seconds back.
Lap one and two were a real Retro Class battle between Cef Alvarez and Grant Swanson. Cef and Grant,
both on 80's CR250, were within seconds of each other when, just before the check, Cef 's bike quit.
Seeing Cef on the side of the trail, Grant put the hammer down for the remaining laps, wrapping up the
Retro class win. Second and third place went to Bruce Rocha and Kevin Langlois respectively.
Evolution class, had a great showing. Dan Gavin riding a highly modifi ed 1978 PE250 managed to keep
