January 2017 29 District 6 Harescramble Fans A New Season! Not too many years ago, if you asked racers/riders in New Jersey or Pennsylvania what series they were involved in, the answer was mostly all the same. District 6, PA State Harescramble Series. Many of my friends would race the series and talk about the many places and venues they were traveling to. They would mention how many racers for both dirt bikes and quads would be there. My very fi rst events were with District 6. They were always impressive! In more recent years it seemed as if District 6 was struggling. However, there was someone who was fi ghting somewhere in the background, keeping the series alive. Credit for that has to go to Duane Fish- er. Duane is the owner of Evansville MX Facility, Berwick PA. He has been working alone for a long time keeping the D6 Harescrambles alive! He has hosted most of the races, but it was at a time when we were lacking the venues and Riding Clubs on board to make the series have the diverse tracks it once did. So Duane just did it himself! It is because of him the series is alive, Thanks Duane! One D6 race led to us showing up regularly at races. You start to recognize people and you get to know each other and their kids. One guy I start connecting with is no other than Tom Wiley and his fam- ily. Great people, great riders, great racers. Duane and Tom are working together to resurrect the se- ries, the venues and District 6 racing. Tom has passion, a wealth of knowledge and has the direction we are going. This guy is no joke! After many chats, sweeps and shared visions, I get that phone call. "Jim, I appointing you to District 6 as a Harescramble Rep! We love being at the races, seeing these little guys and big guys get out there, their smiles, their passion and meeting their families. I will offer whatever I can to help the racers/riders and the District gain strength and grow. Meet Dan Morton. Here is guy who is also wicked with a lens, running all over race courses, taking pictures of everyone else kids and adults. Kelly Wiley and Dan post these incredible pictures of our racers for everyone to enjoy. Dan is also wick- ed sharp, quick, and has fi re and passion for our sport! Dan, also your District 6 Harescramble Rep. Enter Bill Zaharis, Bill is always running with the little guys! He keeps them smiling and motivated in their race! Bill Zaharis, Disrict 6 Harescramble Youth Coordinator. What does this mean for you? I will let Dan Morton explain. "Ladies, gentlemen, racers and race fans, I am very excited to announce changes to the upcoming Dis- trict Six Hare Scramble Program. We heard you. We have made changes. We are working harder than ever before, with a fresh, enthusiastic team, to make District Six Hare Scrambles the best series it can possibly be. New venues, bigger schedule, improved timing and scoring, and an enthusiastic, well-in- volved trouble shooting team are on tap for this year, as well as many other changes. You don't want to miss this series! Jim Caramanna, AMA District Six Hare Scramble Rep. jcaramanna@optonline.net Dan Morton, AMA District Six Hare Scramble Rep. dan@djminsurance.net Bill Zaharis AMA District Six Youth Hare Scramble Rep. billzaharis@gmail.com The new schedule is fi nalized. Jim, Bill, and myself are looking forward to being at every event we can attend, and making sure everyone has a good expe- rience in District Six! Come out and try the NEW D6 and shoot for your crown as the top hare scramble rider in Pennsylvania." We have lots in store for all the racers and their families! Our foremost priority is to make it a safe, orga- nized, and fun series that our youngest racers and our seasoned veterans can enjoy and continue to grow with. We will be available to the racers and their families to listen, learn and evolve! We want to keep this sport and the racing alive. If you are a parent to a new racer, come out meet us and let us provide your child a great experience! We have several sponsors, man power and a vision to grow this series.
