January 2018 25 One would think that with 900 plus riders that crowds would be an issue at places but to the contrary found that the 30 mile or so overall trail system disperses riders quite well. Then there was the single track. The diffi culty level of that was mostly moderate for Tennessee single track. There were a few climbs that ranked in the advanced level but nothing insurmountable for an intermediate rider with some good de- termina on or some help. They were laid out in a manner that would be similar to tracing fi ngers on a hand with the hand being the main trail. Each loop was 1 to 3 miles. The main trail had mul ple eject routes in case anyone gets in over their head or needs emergency assistance. With 900 riders that is important. Most of these were cut by the GNCC folks and SRW. They move them around some from year to year but take care to make sure that they don't cross the main loop for safety reasons. Lenn, Jack and I had an absolute blast. Lenn had recently go en back into riding and this was his third ride on a recently purchased, KTM 450 XC-W. Jack was breaking in his woods edi on KX 250 F that Trail Rider setup (stay tuned for a sto- ry on this bike) and I was on my new Beta 300 RR Race Edi on. We were all riding either new to us or newly modifi ed bikes. Lore a's proved to be a great place to do it. I am pre y sure that Lenn did not go down once. Jack and myself….. well not so much but we did not have any seri- ous carnage. In the end we were all smiles. Trail Rider plans to return over and over again to this well run event. Anyone else in the area who likes such should give it a try if you have not done so. In addi on to the ride, there are a number of other ac vi es like a night me pok- er run, dinner, prizes, vendors and all sorts of other goodies. You can camp onsite and the fa- cili es are nice. Check in with Southernwoods- rider.com for mes and info. They sponsor the October run and a smaller run in December. Middle Tennessee Dirt Riders also hosts a ride in the Spring. I will lik ely a end for a nice dose of single track and BRRAP to de me over un l next Fall! January 2018 23
