8 Trail Rider www.TrailRider.com Having been aboard KTM's and other Euro- pean bikes for years, we've been used to the bu ery smooth feel of a hydraulically actuat- ed clutch for quite some me now. There's no argument that the consistency and smooth pull can make for a more enjoyable dirt ex- perience. Here at Trail Rider, we prefer lon- ger woods rides, anything that can help with reducing fa gue is always appreciated. Enter the Magura HYMEC (Hydraulic to Mechanical) Clutch Conversion Kit. The HYMEC converts motorcycles equipped with cable actuated clutches levers to hydraulic . The kit is actu- ally quite simple with the clutch lever being the master cylinder, the cable replaced with a hydraulic hose that's remarkably small in diameter and a slave cylinder that is designed to hook into where the cable end would have been. This par cular kit was ordered for our "buddy bike" a 2005 Kawasaki KDX 200. The "Black Lab" of dirt bikes so to speak, everyone's friend. Not that the KDX had such a tough clutch pull but it was in need of a new clutch cable as it had seen minimal maintenance over the years. Yes, we like cool and unique and the thought of fi ng the KDX with a hydraulic clutch seemed like a fun idea. In- stalla on was a breeze. Other than the me it took to remove the exis ng cable operated lever assembly, installa on of the Magura unit took the same amount of me as it would to replace a clutch cable. The unit itself is en rely self-bleeding. Ours came fully bled, install and done. How does it compare you ask? Well, it a pre y sweet piece.
