good it was featured in Southern Living Magazine's "The South's Legendary Barbecue Joints," and for good reason, all their food is delicious! We were treated to their Hickory smoked barbecue, and a variety of sauces, including Jack O'Dell's original and mouthwatering sides. Yum! Having benefitted the Armenia United Method- ist Church of Chester County, South Carolina for the past seven years, this year's White Lightening aided my 16-year-old son Elijah's medical treatment and therapy. Elijah, who faces the challenges of an Autism Spectrum Disorder, suffered Acute Autistic Regression last May, which presented with Tourette Syndrome among other issues. Over $3,300 came in from gate fees, a silent auction and anonymous gifts. Preston Petty Products (Paul and Patti Stannard and Mike and Sue Murphy) spearheaded the si- lent auction with their donation of a prize package which included, headlight number plate assembly, IT rear fender, MX front fender, mesh racing jersey, vintage style T-shirt, embroidered cap, and two oval number plates. Then 21-time International Six Day Enduro medalist Fred Hoess donated one of his autographed jerseys, which he wore on day three of the 1985 ISDE, blood stains, and all. Following suit, Enduro Champion Terry Cunningham and wife Trini donated one of Terry's autographed jerseys to the cause. Zahn and Tamara Lewis also donated a new pair of Troy Lee Designs Pants. In addition, the Ton Up NC crew donated a huge box of collectable posters from past years of the Bull City Rumble, their world-renowned vintage motorcycle and scooter rally, six designs in all, to be given away as door prizes. Although Greg works long and hard laying out, clearing and marking the course, and it's a good thing I don't have a "real job" so that I can devote the time it takes for promotion, public relations, and logistics, we could never pull off an event of this caliber without the help of a small army of volunteers, 25 in all, from AHRMA and a group of very good friends. To them we are grateful. We are also grateful that an unseasonable snow storm brought this magazine's Kurt Flachbart and friends to our door, so that you all can experience the White Lightning vicariously through his pho- tos and these words. My wife Dianne, Elijah and I are so very thankful for the love, prayers, support and generosity shown to us by the AHRMA Cross Country family. We look forward to seeing everyone back here at the 11th An- nual Carolinas White Lightning Cross Country Classic in March 2019. AL ROOF
