A race bike at heart, designed for fast and flowy terrain, the 350 XCF needed a few mods to make it work in the rocks and roots of northern New England. The first or- der of business was a Steahly flywheel weight to combat flameouts and suspension mods, which included swapping out the WP XACT air fork com- ponents for WP6500 XACT PRO spring conversion cartridge kits. These rela vely simple mods made a world of difference in how the bike behaved for the terrain I enjoy but in reality, the bike saw very li le use as without ligh ng the XCF is not street-legal. In fact, far from it. Fortunately, several companies are making road-legal ligh ng kits for off-road only motorcy- cles. In researching our op ons, we chose a kit by True North Motos that was so painless to install, it was literally plug-and-play. The stock OEM stator output is marginal at best, it's designed for racing applica ons with no lights or fan and its output reflects that. While research- ing this subject I'd like to thank Dan at Sicass Rac- ing for his technical knowledge concerning the OEM KTM four-stroke off-road model stator output. From what we've learned, the stock SXF/XCF and all other Austrian model 4T stators produce approximately 66 wa s. The igni on, charging, and fuel injec on pump draw approx. 15-18 wa s. Now with an output of 66 wa s, you'd think there'd be plenty of power available for decent, trail-worthy ligh ng but the engine needs to be spun to 10,000 rpm to produce the full 66 wa s. Not sure about you but few in my circle are capable of trail riding at night twisted to 10-grand! Given all this, True North Motos knows what they're doing and provides a Cyclops Trail Boss LED headlight drawing only 28 wa s while delivering 3000 lumens, a measurement of brightness/light output. Now the Cyclops Trail Boss was adequate for ge ng back to the truck when the sun went down but just doesn't produce enough light for an enjoyable night ride. Enter Rick's Motorsport Electrics. Rick's now offers the Hot Shot KTM stator. This is a replacement stator that works with the OEM voltage regulator and delivers 108 wa s of power at 5000 rpm. The beauty of Rick's Hot Shot stator is it produces 90 wa s at only 2500 rpm! An 80% increase over stock. Perfect for power- ing brighter ligh ng and/or a fan and heated grips.
