Ba- sically, drain the engine oil, put the bike on the stand, and remove the seat, fuel tank, and flywheel cover. (It does help to hold the shi lever down with a bungee cord to ease removing and installing the cover). The stator is located inside the cover and once removed, it's easily accessible. (Unlike bikes of yesterday, there's no need for a flywheel puller). The stator is held in place with three 4mm hex head cap screws. I would like to men on KTM does a wonderful job in making sure these li le hex-heads don't loosen up by apply- ing some tough thread locker. To keep from stripping the screws, I clamped on a pair of Vise-Grip pliers to the heads to break the screws loose then spun them out with a 4mm hex driver. Given the fact that you should replace the igni on cover gasket (KTM part # 0025050166) while performing this job, you might as well order all three new screws (Part# 0012050253S) in the process just to have them on hand. Installa on was the reverse order, and the en re installa on took less than a half hour and that's taking my me.
