As for a modern class bike, just a couple of weeks before, our buddy Keith Taylor had won the B-Se- nior P27 Offroad championship, promo ng him to A-Class. This kid has dug deep over the past five years, and with a sugges on from our man Beau Viens, we decided to offer Keith a sponsored Trail Rider ride aboard our long-term Beta 350 X-PRO test bike, perfect for the bony southern New En- gland condi ons. As for the vintage event, as expected, the classes were stacked with racers from all skill levels. Some beginners and many current and re red pros. Interest- ing? Oh yes, as NETRA Vintage classes are not divid- ed by skill levels, they are divided by bike age, with 1975 and older being considered Vintage, '76 and up being drum braked, Evolu on and disc classes, and Pre-Modern. Compe on was hot and heavy despite the condi- ons, and watching these much faster, much younger riders flat-out kill it in such treacherous condi ons was eye-opening with 2025 Hare Scrambles champ Tyler Rocha taking the Overall Vintage win. As for your editor, Kurt, about the only thing I can say about my performance is that I finished the event. Unscathed, mind you, and let's leave it at that… By Sunday morning, the en re Richardson Farm property was a sea of trucks and RVs of all shapes and sizes. Es mates through the gate were approaching 2000, with a whopping 704 racers entered. Possibly a NETRA all- me record! As expected, with such a huge number of racers entered, the gates were crazy. For example, a typical Sportsman (C-Class) gate might be 20 bikes; 30 would be a lot. As expected, the course was a quagmire with end- less swill holes, li ered with firmly embedded rocks of all sizes. The icing on the cake was the muck covering the rocks, along with a generous helping of slippery roots. My day began specta ng the Pee Wee races, and what fun that can be. Watching packs of li le kids absolutely hammer it across condi ons that would rival a GNCC event was impressive. What a class- room NETRA can be for young rippers. It's no won- der that so many of our na on's fastest riders, such as Ben Kelly, Josh Toth, and Johnny Girroir, grew up racing NETRA's gnar.
