April 2026 13 Established in 1996, the 1600-acre riding area borders Tinker Air Force Base and Lake Stanley Draper, and is close enough to Oklahoma City that you can see the skyline off to the north. Draper Lake, as the locals call it, is host to all sorts of outdoor recrea on besides the riding area. There are equestrian stables and trails, a marina with fishing and boa ng, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, an R/C model airplane field, a dog park, picnic and sports areas. It is a very nice facility, and fees are charged for some of the ac vi es. It's worth no ng that the off- road motorcyclists are the only user group that generates income for the park. The Cross Timbers Riding Associa on and the Okie Dirt Riders maintain the off-road property. There are over 60 miles of one-way direc onal trails with four skill levels, from easy to ght and technical. Trails are well marked with both arrowing and signage deno ng difficulty. Daily riding is by permit ($10 at the ranger sta on), or a $75 annual membership gives you unlimited riding if you live nearby. The property is leased from the Oklahoma City Water U li es board and is slated to eventually become a reservoir once OKC's popula on reaches a pping point of some sort. Club member Ma said it might be 20 years before that happens, or it might be next year, but for now, they are full steam ahead, and Cross Tim- bers remains a great place to ride with your pals.
