PVL's take on the twin-spark plug system is unique. It
differs from the OEM Motoplat single coil with two
plug wire leads, and replaces it with two separate
coils, one a master, and the other, the slave coil. The
master or lead coil, colored black, is a combina on
CDI/Coil, and the slave coil is red. They both fire
simultaneously. Finding this system quite interes ng, I
later learned that it was originally designed for twin-
plug Harley-Davidson XR750R flat-track racers, and
that Penton Sportcycles/Imports legend Dane Leim-
bach (RIP) was instrumental in its development.
Installa on of the PVL igni on system was straight-
forward and basically entailed removing all Motoplat
components and installing the PVL system. The only
fabrica on required was to create a second bracket
for the slave coil.
At this point, Brian's KTM 495 is almost ready to
rip. Unfortunately, due to a looming press deadline,
we're wai ng for a few more minor parts to complete
the project. If all planets align within the next cou-
ple of weeks, plans are to put our man Beau Viens
aboard Brian's bike at Unadilla MX Rewind to be held
the weekend of June 5th through 7
