October 2026 31 Saturday morning, we awoke to bright blue skies and temps in the mid-60s, with a long line of trucks, trailers, and eager vintage freaks ready to partake in the fes vi es. The 9:30 AM riders' mee ng explained what Vintage Day at the Ranch was all about. There would be no compe on, It's a fun run and swap meet. Basically, enjoy the camaraderie, the bikes, and have fun riding the property. As for courses, there were two: a freshly mowed grass track for the motocross enthusiasts and a beau ful 7-mile loop that wound through the woods and fields surrounding the property. My rides for the event were three of my favorite Pentons that had seen li le use in recent years: a '72 125 Six Day, a '75 250 MC, and a '76 400 Cross Country. My first stab at the course would be the 400, as big bores seem to fit me well. Right out of the gate, I knew I was in a special place. There were no rocks and roots—just flowy two-track with some sweet eleva on changes. A couple of miles in, I found op onal "A" sec ons for those who enjoy a more challenging ride and a "B" sec on for those looking for something milder. Other than a short stretch of dried-up creek bed, there were no rocks worthy of men on. Yes, pinch myself, perfect! My next steed was the 125 Six Day. This par cu- lar bike has been the subject of several Trail Rider features, with the most recent modifica on being a Lectron Billetron Mini carburetor. Now that I knew what to expect from the course, I had a blast ripping the li le Penton through the woods with a mile-wide grin. The Billetron Mini complements the Sachs engine incredibly well, adding a bit more us- able bo om end to an engine that has pre y much none. The Lectron really shines when you twist it; the mid-range and top end are where it sings, rev- ving so high only dogs could hear it coming!
