recipient of some unfair comparisons. The Haters like to point to the scale and get their panties in a wad because the GasGas weighs as much as a 450 4-stroke. It's true that it does (or did), but it's hardly an apples to apples comparison as the GasGas does not feel as heavy when in motion. The gyrating mass and higher center of gravity on the 450's lend a heavier, more cumbersome feel when compared to the GasGas. However, that's no longer relevant as the Spanish manufacturer has taken a step in the right direction for 2014 The GasGas comes fitted with a and shaved over 11 new Reiger shock. pounds from the bike. Part of the weight reduction stems from the new chassis, which is about 4.5 pounds lighter than last year's model. GasGas also made several changes to the motor, which accounts for most of the remaining weight savings. The new motor features a new cylinder and cylinder head that also produces more power. A new electrical curve is aimed at competition, rather than casual riding. The motor also features a new crankshaft which is lighter and intended to reduce vibration. New number plates allow for increased air flow and improved engine performance. The crank case size is also smaller, making the GasGas even more slender. The new dry weight is around 240 pounds, which is 11 less than last year. Some other improvements include a new shock by Reiger. The reiger shock features a small internal thermostatic device that compensates for the changes in oil viscosity when the shock is hot or cold. This will be interesting to test. A new rear brake pedal is repositioned outside of the chassis which avoids problems caused by mud. The foot pegs are also adjustable so the rider can find the best ergonomic position in reference to their specific size. The GasGas also comes fitted with: • New machined triple clamps, • A new skid plate provides better protection, • Slimmer side number plates that improve the GasGas's overall ergonomics, and • a dual-power ignition map. The bike is also pure eye candy. What about the TM Brand? Unfortunately there will not be any TM's being imported to the US for 2014. All we know is that the U.S importer hopes to get an early delivery of 2015 models when they are ready. Stay tuned. December 2013/January 2014 19
