After one of the harshest winters on record, the growing legion of J Day racers and fans were more than ready to kick off the 2014 season. Fine spring weather coupled with the immensely popular Crowhill venue helped to send a record-breaking 600 riders to the starting line for the season opener. The track crew did another fantastic job creating a layout that included everything from classic New England gnarl to the Crowhill MX track. Similar to last year, the J day crew spread hundreds of cubic yards of sand throughout the course to insure a smooth delivery of fun. Once again, the fan favorite was an all-new KTM Ex- treme section, which resembled an outdoor endurocross track. When the green flag dropped on the pro class, rookie pro Conner Sheridan made his debut by grabbing the STS holeshot and putting his new KTM in front of the other 32 pro riders. His lead was short-lived as reigning series champion Johnny Girroir swept past him with pro mo- tocrosser Robby Marshall and Jason Connell in pursuit. Girroir led Marshall into the woods where the two would bang bars while swapping the lead for the entire 30- minute moto.
