24 Trail Rider www.TrailRider.com Kicking it in Tennessee with the Coal Miner's Daughter By Bill Pa erson – Southeastern Contribu ng Editor Lore a Lynn may originally be from Kentucky but she owns a ranch outside of Dickson Tennessee and is gracious to allow woods riders the oppor- tunity to sample some middle Tennessee riding a couple of mes a year. I live about an hour away but mostly ride the East Tennessee mountains so oddly enough I have never a ended an event at this mys cal place. It is no secret that Lore a Lynn's is a pinnacle stop for MX racers but woods riders get to play over there as well. That's right, there are miles of smile inducing single track in them thar hills! This October Lenn Shults and Jack Vaughn got to accompany Trail Rider to the Fall Woods Ride hosted by Southern Woods Rider (SWR). South- ern Woods Rider has been hos ng the event since 2004 which was the 20 th Anniversary. Yes, this event has some history. This year they had approximately 900 paying riders. Tom Stotler the founder and president of SWR stated this event has two resounding themes which are family and educa on. Trail Rider is a huge fan of both. He indicated that some younger folks have been cri cal for his approach to safety. I did not hear anything in the riders mee ng other than SWR requiring the same safety equipment and pro- cessed I adhere to every me I fi re up a bike. As for being a family ride it was an amazing family event. Approximately 25% of the riders appeared to be in the youth category. As a ma er of fact I will be bringing my wife next year! Now for the good stuff . The trails were a series of 8-10 single tracks that extended off the main 20 mile loop. The loop itself while not being single track was a nice trail. It featured some nice climbs, ruts, ledges and jumps. It was mod- erate but fun enough to be run on its own merit without the single track sec ons.
