Debbie Rudder, Dwight's be er half and long- me SERA administrator, celebrated her birthday, too. A pair of awards was handed out. First was the Al Eames "Mr. ISDT" Award presented to the Acadiana Dirt Riders as thanks for all their hard work in organizing the Reunion and con nuing the tradi on of honoring America's ISDT and ISDE veterans. The second award was the Leroy Winters Memorial Award which went to Hodaka Dave, Dave Rozier. The choice came down to two individuals, both of whom have supported the Reunion for years and are long- me enthusiasts and compe tors. They have also off ered their guidance, wisdom and mechanical exper se to dozens of riders through the years. Dwight Rudder called Bart Winters, explained who the two fi nalists were and Bart agreed that both were worthy of the award. When it came to choosing one over the other, Bart had one ques on..."Who rides the oldest bike?" That was the e-breaker, and the award was justly deserved by. Well done! Following the meal and presenta ons, the club showed The John Penton Movie. If you've never seen it, this is a must-see produc on. It tells the life story of JP as well as the history of the famous Penton brand. Dozens of racers and industry giants, all of whom any racing enthusiast will recognize, are interviewed and have nothing but praise for John Penton. The fi lm illustrates his devo on to his dream of building the best lightweight compe on bike he could, and how he personally infl uenced their lives and the lives of thousands of racers worldwide. Everyone reading this should have a copy in their personal library; it is truly that good! The word Saturday was that a half inch of rain overnight would make Sunday's ride just about perfect. There were a few dusty spots on Saturday, but everyone felt just a touch of moisture would yield ideal riding condi ons, and the forecast ini ally looked very promising. Sunday morning brought a diff erent story. Heavy rain and thunderstorms moved in overnight, and the half inch of needed rain fell in the fi rst hour and then kept coming...and coming... and coming.
