then filled it with Spectro
Golden Gear 80w. As for the
fuel tank, we dumped the stale
gas in another neighbor's kid's
car when he wasn't looking.
It's OK; that kid sucks anyway.
Then the petcock was re-
moved, cleaned and new gas-
ket/seal installed, along with
a new length of fuel line. With
fat spark, compression and
fresh fuel, it was me to see
how it ran. KDX's are known for
being near bullet-proof, and
this one proved no different by
firing up a er only a few kicks.
Once warmed up, it sounded
ght. So nice in fact, I spent a
fair amount of me disassem-
bling, cleaning and re-packing
the silencer. Crisp and clean, a
good running KDX is music to
any dirt biker's ears.
As we all know, the dirt bike
community is small. A er
spending a fair amount of me
with this project, my neighbor
tracked down the guy who'd
traded the KDX so many years
back. What we learned made
my grin even wider as he
claimed the motor had just
received a new OEM cylinder
and cranksha just before he
traded it. He said it had less
than an hour of run me on it
and I believe him. Cha-Ching!
Our next order of business was
to drain and change all re-
maining fluids. Front and rear
brakes were purged with fresh
brake fluid along with new DP
Brakes pads. Since our inten-
ons were to keep costs to a
