April 2014 9 While the pro class slammed in to the first corner, Jimmy Decos was kicking over his Honda CRF 450. When Decos finally got rolling, the pro field was rounding the 3rd corner with reigning series champion Johnny Girroir in the lead and Kyle Hangos in tow. In wild fashion, Decos would sweep past half of the field on the first lap, and by lap 2 dropped ¾ of the field in his wake while clos- ing fast on top 5. While Decos was charging through the field, Hangos was out front bat- tling with Johnny Girroir for the lead posion. The two would go bar to bar through the KTM Extreme secon on the second lap with Hangos holding off Girroir. At some point during lap three, Girroir would hit the ground leaving Hangos by himself. With Girroir down, Hangos would grab a gear and hope to run out the clock on Decos. 8 me naonal enduro champion Mike Laf- ferty struggled in the first moto but re- bounded to finish 6th in the second moto 2 The second moto was much more closely contested by the naonal pro riders as Chris Bach, Jason Thomas and Mike Lafferty went bar to bar through the back secon of the course, swapping posions three mes in a few hundred yards. The three would bang bars for two more laps before Bach began to distance himself. While Bach, Thomas and Lafferty hammered away at each other, NETRA Hare Scramble Champion Jason Klam- mer would take up a posion just behind them. With Bach now securely in second place, Decos would sweep past Lafferty and Thomas to close in on Bach. By the beginning of the second to last lap, Bach was in Decos's crosshairs. Decos would go on to overtake Bach and move in on Hangos. By the end of the final lap, Decos was all over Hangos and the race to the checkered flag was on. In a wild finish, Decos pushed past Hangos for an un- believable comeback win. Chris Bach would go on to finish third overall for the second moto followed by Jason Thomas and Johnny Girroir. Mike Lafferty shored up the 6th spot. The 1-1 by Decos gave him the overall win and the majority of the $3,000 pro purse. Kyle Hangos rode the wheels off his KTM to finish second overall while Chris Bach secured the final podium posion. Jason Thomas and Johnny Girroir rounded out the top 5, respecvely. The race needs to be on your 2015 Florida bike week inerary. There's no other series where Su- percross, Motocross, Enduro and GNCC pro riders line up on the same starng line. The Series resumes acon on April 20th at the Crow Hill GP, in Templeton, MA. Story and photos by Kevin novello Chris Bach, 3rd overall JasonThomas, 4th overall
